June 11th-13th

ANNOUNCEMENTS AND REMINDERS:

It's so hard to believe that this is the last week of school!  The year has flown by!  Remember that Wednesday, June 13th will be our last day of school and it will be an early release day.  Students are dismissed at 12:00.

Students will be bringing lots of stuff home with them throughout this week.  If you have any questions about anything that is sent home, please let me know!

CALLING ALL LIBRARY BOOKS!  Some students still have some library books checked out that need to be returned.  Bring them back to school ASAP!

This week...

We will be finishing in the last few goals that we were able to meet for reading, writing, spelling, and math.  These goal trackers will be sent home for you and your child to enjoy!

We have also had a lot of fun playing sparkle, a spelling game, with all of our second grade spelling words!  In order to win, you need three things:  to be a good listener, a good speller, and a little bit of luck.  Ask your child how to play.

We will also be creating a memory book of some of our favorite moments in second grade.  With this, I'm hoping they'll be able to look back on second grade with a smile on their face!

Team Blowey is also going to be doing a couple science experiments!  Today, we did an experiment with a parachute, and tomorrow we'll be doing an experiment with a kite.

It's crazy to think that this year is so close to being over.  Thanks again for all of your support and cooperation!  I hope your time with Team Blowey was a positive one!

Enjoy this beautiful week and have a wonderful summer!

June 4th-June 8th

ANNOUNCEMENTS AND REMINDERS:

Tomorrow, June 5th, we will be going to the Wildlife Park rain or shine! Please dress your child appropriately!  Here are some things they need to remember:  wear their team jersey, bring $2.00 for a drink or soda (no more than $2), and bring a packed lunch!  If you are chaperoning the field trip, your child should have brought home a letter today with the basic outline for how tomorrow will work.

Thursday, June 7th, is the cookout!  Join your child for lunch and then come into room 10 for loads of fun!  Students will be hosting a zoo tour where you can check out everyone's dioramas and learn all kinds of facts about the animals we studied!

Friday, June 8th, is our Step Up Day for Dunn!  We will be heading over to Dunn School so we can get Team Blowey a little more comfortable with the school, lunch, and then some games and activities.  I can't believe they are going to be third graders so soon!

Friday is Music and P.E. day!  Please remember to send your child in with their sneakers and water bottles!

Only 7 more days left of school!  Remember, June 13th will be a half day!

This week in...

Language Arts:  We are beginning to wrap up the year!  Students will be given lots of goal time this week to work on the goals they would like to meet most by the end of the year.  This means students may be working to finish all of their second grade spelling words, work on their CAFE goals to help them reach the next reading bucket, or working on their writing goals.  During this time, I will be meeting with each member of Team Blowey for our final reading/writing conferences.  We will also be trying to fit in some fun activities such as reader's theater performances and words of advice to incoming second graders.

Math:  We are wrapping up our measurement unit this week.  By now students have practiced estimating and measuring objects using centimeters, inches, feet, yards, and meters.  They have also measured multiple objects and figured out the difference between the two.  In addition, they have learned how to measure multiple items and represent those lengths in a line plot.  Finally, students have learned how to solve word problems involving length.

Math this week will involve wrapping up and assessing all measurement standards as well as reviewing standards that were covered throughout the year.  Students who had not previously mastered a standard will have the opportunity to be assessed again now that they have had more practice.

A fun project in math that we will be completing this week is building fairy houses.  Students will be challenged to collect and measure the materials necessary to build a house for a fairy.  Once students have completed their fairy house, they will be challenged to advertise their house.

Science:  Our read aloud books this week will cover subjects in air and weather.  We'll be learning some key vocabulary and also some important facts about the two subjects.  We'll be tracking the weather this week and watching how it changes.  Next week, we will be doing a couple experiments involving air (parachutes and kites).

Social Studies: We've had a couple more flat kids return from their long journeys!  We've got to learn about Arkansas, Virginia, and a little more about Massachusetts.  We've loved reading about different places, finding them on the map, and looking at pictures of different places around the country.  Hopefully a few more of our flat kids will make it back before the school year is over!

If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to ask!  I hope you have a wonderful week!
